根據外國研究數據顯示，被甄別為有讀寫困難傾向的學前兒童的比率約為20%–30%，而本港同類測驗中，幼稚園低班及高班學童的比率分別為27%及25%，與外國數據相若。有見及此，協康會「喜閱寫意：賽馬會讀寫支援計劃」工作小組利用三年時間進行研發、設計、試教及成效研究，於2009年出版了供幼稚園使用的《聽說讀寫小寶盒》幼兒語文學習教材套，並於翌年與18間幼稚園開展為期三年的協作計劃，在現有課程中融入《小寶盒》的內容，以支援有潛在讀寫困難的幼兒。成效研究顯示，311名被甄別為有潛在讀寫困難的幼兒，在接受一年支援服務後，他們的聽說讀寫能力均得到顯注提升，而當中約三成更能脫離潛在困難的組別。

為進一步推動幼稚園和幼兒園協助有潛在讀寫困難的幼兒，本會推出《聽說讀寫小寶盒 - 幼兒語文學習教材套》加強版，彙集由教育心理學家、言語治療師、職業治療師及幼師在幼稚園支援潛在讀寫困難幼兒的臨床經驗及心得。教材套包含一本教師使用手冊、兩本分別適用於低班及高班的教學活動範例手冊及教材光碟。內容涵蓋「聽與說」、「閱讀」和「書寫」語文學習範疇共144個教學活動，藉此協助幼兒教育工作者更有效地使用教材套，從而幫助幼兒愉快學習。
